Who approves access and roofing work?
Identify the contracting officer or authorized project representative, facility manager, safety contact, and any required escort. Confirm the approved scope, work limits, site orientation, personnel roster, vehicle entry, and tool or material controls before mobilization. Verify whether the project requires a site walk, formal submittals, or a specific question process. Do not start work, testing, or photography outside the authorization.
Collect the approved roof plans, repair history, system information, leak logs, and any available hazardous-material documentation through the proper channel. A roof inspection should report only permitted observations and identify areas that were not accessible. If an opening or test is needed, request written approval for its location, interior protection, closure detail, and disposal plan before proceeding.
Use the site’s current security and safety instructions for access, escorts, identification, communications, photography, and restricted areas. Do not include controlled details in a general contractor report. Keep notes focused on the roof condition and the authorized work. Ask the site lead how to store photographs and field records, and whether devices or network access are limited.
Confirm the designated route to the roof, approved staging area, fire and emergency access, and any hours when the building or adjacent area must remain clear. If the facility has operational equipment below the roof, let the authorized representative set the protection and shutdown process. Do not infer a system’s operational sensitivity or move equipment without written direction.
